AMALFI GUIDE & BOOK

Atrani

Italy's smallest town by area, a short walk from Amalfi: a little square by the sea, ancient churches and stairways climbing up to Ravello.

DON'T MISS

Piazza Umberto I

Piazza Umberto I

30 min

A small enclosed square framed by houses and opening onto the sea through the arches of the coast road: the heart of village life.

Sit at a café table early in the morning, while the village is still quiet.

Chiesa di San Salvatore de' Birecto

Chiesa di San Salvatore de' Birecto

15 min

An ancient church overlooking the square, linked to the history of the Republic of Amalfi: the doges were invested here.

It is reached by a short flight of steps from the square.

Access via steps.

Collegiata di Santa Maria Maddalena

15 min

The church with a majolica dome overlooking the sea at the entrance to the village: one of the most photographed views on the coast.

The best view of the church is from the coast road towards Amalfi.

Access via steps.

Spiaggia di Atrani

1–2 hours

A small beach at the foot of the village, often quieter than Amalfi's.

In summer arrive early: space is limited.

Salita a piedi verso Ravello

Half day

Old stairways between houses and terraces climb from the village towards Ravello.

Walk up in the morning and come back by bus or taxi to save your legs.

Many uphill steps, not suitable for pushchairs.
